Reference: 302607 Christy Fitzgerald presentation 1.JPG | Photographer: Joe O'Shaughnessy | | Caption: A function was held at the Rockbarton Park Hotel Salthill to honour Christy Fitzgerald who was the principal initiator of the concept of the construction of a Handball facility in Galway, and is considered as a “founding father” of the present Salthill Handball & Racquetball Club. Through Christys’ determination and dedication and with assistance from Liam Forde and others, the project came to fruition and has served ever since, as the bedrock for both the promotion and staging of handball through the generations.
Mayor Donal Lyons is pictured making a presentation of inscribed glassware on behalf of Salthill Handball & Racquetball Club to Christy to mark his afore mentioned dedication to providing the current facility, at the function. Included in the photograph are Christy's wife Pauline and current Chairman of the club, Pierce Lalor.
The Club wishes to thank all of Christys friends and past and present members of the club for attending what was a very enjoyable night.
